The Los Angeles Auto Show officially opened on November 21st, unveiling a series of exciting new debuts and updates that have captivated attendees. The event at the LA Convention Center featured a dynamic mix of attractions, including pet adoptions, road courses, virtual reality driving experiences, and, of course, a stunning array of new vehicle models. However, it was the electric and hybrid vehicles that truly stole the spotlight, with KIA and Hyundai leading the charge in showcasing groundbreaking innovations for the first time.
KIA made a powerful impression during the opening weekend of the LA Auto Show, debuting and updating several standout models. Among the highlights was the PV5 WKNDR concept, a rugged, outdoor-focused vehicle that captivated audiences with its bold design and innovative approach to overlanding—arguably one of the most adventurous concepts we’ve seen. KIA also unveiled the 2026 EV9 GT, a high-performance electric SUV boasting 501 horsepower and a standard e-All-Wheel-Drive system, designed to maximize the dual motors’ capabilities. It’s incredible that KIA has engineered a large SUV that can accelerate from 0 to 60 MPH in just 4.3 seconds. I can’t wait to take it for a spin as soon as the opportunity arises.
KIA’s most anticipated production reveal at the LA Auto Show was the 2026 KIA Sportage, which received a stylish update that enhances its sleek design while preserving its reputation as a fantastic family vehicle. The front end has been revamped with a more angular, bold look, aligning it with the brand’s signature SUV styling. The updated Sportage also boasts new features, including an optional 10-inch heads-up display, adaptive cruise control, and seamless wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
Hyundai’s most exciting reveal at the show was the Ioniq 9, a highly anticipated three-row electric SUV that has generated a lot of buzz. Designed for comfort on long journeys, it comes equipped with body-massaging front seats, ensuring you won’t feel sore during extended trips. Hyundai also introduced their innovative hydrogen fuel cell SUV, the Initium, which boasts an impressive 400+ mile range. The Initium features cutting-edge technology, including a unique FCEV-specific route planner that helps drivers locate hydrogen fueling stations and provides real-time information on wait times if there’s a line.
Jeep wowed attendees with its impressive 30,000-square-foot outdoor course, Camp Jeep, where visitors could experience thrilling rides with professional drivers. The course featured a 40-degree vertical incline and ramps designed to simulate the challenges of navigating a canyon. It was not for the faint of heart, showcasing exactly why off-road vehicles are equipped with hand grips inside the cabin for added stability and control during intense drives.
Volkswagen showcased their new ID.Buzz Microbus with an exciting road course, offering a modern twist on their iconic classic vans. The ID. Buzz features a sunroof that can switch from opaque to clear with the touch of a button, alongside impressive electric performance, delivering 335 horsepower that makes you forget you’re driving a van. Additionally, VW unveiled a redesigned 2025 Tiguan, their best-selling SUV, which now boasts a sleek illuminated VW logo on the grille, aligning with the brand’s other models. With 201 horsepower and a lighter frame, the 2025 Tiguan is built to deliver a sportier, more dynamic driving experience than its predecessors.
If you couldn’t make it to the LA Auto Show yet, be sure to head there this weekend as the last day is December 1st. With each passing year, the vehicles on display become more impressive, offering a unique opportunity to see the latest models up close and interact with industry experts. It’s an unmissable chance to explore the cars you’ll soon be considering for yourself.
