Blaze Fast-Fire’d Pizza will begin offering a keto crust and other menu innovations for nutrition-conscious customers on Tuesday, July 16.
In keeping with popular ketogenic diets, the new crust has two 2 grams of carbohydrates a slice, according to the Pasadena-based restaurant chain’s nutrition calculator.
Blaze’s “classic dough,” made with wheat and malted barley flour, has 14 grams of carbohydrates.
Keto diets emphasize fat and protein consumption combined with low carbs.
The keto dough replaces flour with high fiber and high protein ingredients such as flax seeds, eggs and cheese, according to executive chef Brad Kent. The ingredients have a savory and nutty flavor, he said in an email.
Blaze is also debuting a cauliflower crust and four signature pizzas that can be ordered online or through the chain’s app.
